Hákarl

I had an opportunity to taste hákarl last night. It was, without a doubt, the most intense food I have yet eaten.

We started off with some dried cod which tastes great but smells like a fish market. The cod was child's play compared to what came next.

The hákarl smelled like it should, being putrified shark meat. Little pungent ammonia-smelling yellow cubes, perfect for stabbing with toothpicks. The taste was like nothing I've had before. Not fishy really, almost solvent-like. Truly indescribable. The after taste was even stronger. I ate about three cubes total.

Surprisingly, no chunder struck. The beverage of choice was brennivin, an Icelandic schnapps that greatly helped to cleanse the palate after experiencing such a powerful taste.

Velvet Revolver at Hammerstein

Thanks to a friend I was able to get a ticket to Velvet Revolver on NYE. Hammerstein Ballroom, never been there before.

Super quick synopsis. You've probably seen my concert list. Here it goes:

  • They started so late it began to piss people off (23:30 or something).
  • The beer was $7 or $8.
  • Plenty of crazy drunks.
  • Slash still rocks.

Slash broke a vital string in the midst of a Patience solo and still worked around it. It was good to hear some STP and GNR songs. I never got a chance to see either band in their heyday. Good to see they still enjoy playing live, refreshing.

We were right in front, battling at some points, got some killer pics on my Treo.
